About BAC @ VCU

Formed in 1970 on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University, The Black Awakening Choir has become a nationally recognized collegiate choir with a reputation of ministering in excellence. The choir is known for its unique and authentic style of praise and worship through song, high energy and precision choreography. They have performed for national gospel recording artists, made several television appearances, toured the east cost and won several first place honors at the National Baptist Student Union Choir Competition.

BAC is a purpose driven ministry with a mission to effectively minister the word of God through song, bringing people closer to Christ. The choir is currently under the new leadership of Ms. Eboni M. Gross. Eboni is originally from Washington DC but moved to Virginia in 2002 and never looked back. A choir member for over 5 years Eboni knows that God has a new anointing to lay over this 60 person choir and is looking to not only take this choir to the next level but also in a different direction. Under this new leadership the choir will continue to focus on structure and discipline as they grow and reinvent themselves through Christ.

Membership Info

If you are thinking about joining the Black Awakening Choir here are a few things that you should consider:

* There is an audition process administered -- 2 minute song of your choice, choreography, pitch test, and an interview;
* All Engagements and Rehearsals are MANDATORY;
* Travel through out the city and out of town is not uncommon;
* We have specific wardrobe requirements;
* Choreography is incorporated with our singing.

We welcome new members 3 weeks after each new semester starts. New members DO NOT have to be students at VCU. We would love to have you as a member but please keep in mind that dedication is our main requirement. We understand that balancing school, work and extra-curricular activities can be stressful and time consuming but we also know that we can be sustained through everything as long as the desire to do so is in our hearts. If you choose to make the dedication you will enjoy your self and also find a second family in BA! If you feel like you have the desire to join this organization but still have questions please contact Eboni M. Gross at director@blackawakening.com.

Rehearsals for the Fall 2010 Semester start August 26, 2010, 8:30PM in the Commons Theater.
